Boston Trip

Last month, we introduced Cohen to Boston.  There were friends to visit, a marathon for Cristen to run, and baby Red Sox apparel to find. Here are some of the highlights of the trip (we regrettably forgot to pull out the camera every time we visited with friends, so sorry for the lack of pictures for some of these highlights):

Sunday (the day before the race)

Cohen’s 1st subway ride (known as the T in Boston) He had a blast people-watching and receiving attention from other passengers.

The Boston Marathon Expo: Cristen got her bib number a bunch of other freebees as we walked around the Hynes Convention Center.

Palm Sunday Service at Park Street Church: PSC is our old church home and Cristen’s former employer, so it was wonderful to attend a service and see some old friends.

Lunch with friends from our old small group - Ben, Ruthie, their 2 precious kids and Ruth. We regret the lack of picture here, but imagine 5 adults and 3 kids having a great time at lunch.

Taking pictures at the finish line on Boylston Street.

Dinner and an evening with Dan and Jen and their two boys, Collin and Tyler. Collin is just a month younger than Cohen, and Tyler, at two years old, gave us a glimpse of the fun that is in store for us when Cohen grows up. Yet another missed picture opportunity here, but again, a great time had by all.

Marathon Monday

Cristen met up with two friends, Steven and Christine Hevelone-Byler, who are seasoned Boston Marathon runners and let a novice tag along with them so she didn’t have to navigate around the Athlete’s Village and 27,000 other runners on her own. Cristen welcomed the ability to catch up with friends to help calm her nerves.

Cristen running the race and qualifying for next year! The race was much more challenging (both mentally and physically) than Cristen’s previous marathon experience in Richmond, but overall went well.

Some highlights of hers:

A blind runner running next to his guide
The Hoyts
Groups of soldiers walking/running in full gear
Watching two male runners fall flat on their face as they gawked at female Wellesley College students

Josh and Cohen took the commuter train out to the 10 mile mark in Natick, MA and then tried to get back to the finish line.  Unfortunately, due to the trains being late and no good way to get to the finish line, they missed seeing Cristen at both spots, though they did meet up relatively easily after Cristen finished.

A perfect end to race day relaxing with some red wine, a delicious pasta dinner with Dan, Jen, and the boys, and, of course, ice cream.

Tuesday (the day after the race):

We took advantage of our last day in Boston by walking around town a bit. Luckily Cristen's legs agreed.

We went back to Park Street Church to introduce Cohen to Cristen’s former co-workers. Another missed set of photos.

A walk around Boston Common.

Lunch with our friend Tracy (and her adorable baby bump!). Lost photo-op #4.

A walk around Harvard and visiting Josh’s former lab and labmates. LPO#5

Dinner with Josh’s wonderful great Aunt Lois and Uncle Joe.  Thanks to them, Cohen finally has a Red Sox shirt to wear proudly! LPO #6.
