Cohen's 1st Holidays

We are beginning to understand what everyone has been warning us about: Life with a kid flies by.  Before we knew it, we were celebrating Christmas with a 3 month old.  So here are some holiday highlights:

Halloween

We had a disappointingly small number of trick-or-treaters (Josh enjoyed the extra candy).  But Cohen was OK with that since it meant he didn’t have to spend all night as a lobster.

Thanksgiving

We traveled to VA to spend Thanksgiving with Cristen’s family.  Thanksgiving morning began with a 5K Turkey Trot.  Cohen was a trooper as he and Josh stood in the cold to cheer on the runners.

We were so excited that he was able to meet some of Cristen’s cousins who were in town from Ireland, California, and South Carolina.  And there was no shortage of quality time with his Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Matthew, Aunt Liz, and Uncle David.

We ended the weekend with the search for the perfect Christmas tree in the parking lot of our local Kroger.

Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas, though it looked a little different this year for a few reasons.

It was the first year we hosted family in our home, rather than traveling to our parents’ houses.   Unfortunately, the whole family could not be together since Josh’s sister and brother-in-law (Kristen and Chip) weren’t able to make. But they have good reason: Kristen is expecting Cohen’s first cousin in less than a month!  Though it felt incomplete to not have the whole family together, we had a nice, relaxed day with Josh’s parents. And, thanks to Skype, Chip and Kristen sat with us as we opened gifts.

Cristen’s family joined us on the 26th.  We woke up that morning to a beautiful 6 inches of snow outside.  Unfortunately, Cristen’s brother and sister-in-law (David and Liz) weren’t able to drive down from Richmond because the roads were a mess.  Josh made sure Cohen had his first snowman, though we’ll later explain to him that mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, and a football facemask are unusual adornments.

We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that 2011 is full of many blessings!
